Say Goodbye to Sagging Skin with Plasma Skin Tightening in Oakland

Plasma pen skin tightening is a cosmetic procedure that uses a device called a plasma pen to tighten and rejuvenate the skin. The plasma pen works by using a high-frequency electrical current to create tiny plasma arcs on the surface of the skin, which in turn creates micro-injuries that stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. A survey conducted by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in 2020 found that non-invasive skin tightening treatments, including plasma skin tightening, were among the top five most commonly performed non-surgical cosmetic procedures in the United States.

If you're interested in trying this innovative procedure in Oakland, CA, Studio Noir is the place to find the most experienced and qualified licensed professionals. What is Fibroblast/Plasma Pen Skin Tightening?

Plasma Skin Tightening is a revolutionary, non-invasive alternative treatment to traditional surgery. The treatment helps eliminate excessive tissue that causes sagging skin, unwanted wrinkles, stretch marks and can even diminish scarring. t can be used on various parts of the body, including the face, neck, and hands.

The primary indication for this treatment is to tighten loose skin and activate the fibroblast cells in the dermis. These cells are the biggest collagen producers among the varying types of connective tissue cells. The Plasma Pen causes these cells to create high levels of collagen andeElastin that creates an instant and long-term tightening.

Discover the Benefits of Plasma Skin Tightening for Your Skin

Plasma skin tightening with Fibroblast Plasma Pen has several benefits, including:

  • Non-surgical: Plasma skin tightening is a non-surgical procedure, meaning that it does not require incisions or injections, which can reduce the risks associated with more invasive procedures.

  • Minimal downtime: Plasma skin tightening is generally a low-risk procedure with minimal downtime, allowing patients to resume their regular activities within a day or two following the treatment.

  • Improved skin texture and tone: The procedure can help to improve the texture and tone of the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging.

  • Reduced sagging skin: Plasma skin tightening can be effective in reducing the appearance of sagging skin, particularly around the eyes, mouth, and neck.

  • Long-lasting results: While the results may vary depending on the individual, plasma skin tightening can provide long-lasting results, with effects that can last for up to several years.

  • Safe for most skin types: Plasma skin tightening is generally considered safe for most skin types, including those with sensitive skin or darker skin tones, making it a viable option for a wider range of patients.

  • Natural-looking results: The gradual nature of the treatment allows for natural-looking results, avoiding the 'overdone' appearance that can sometimes result from more invasive cosmetic procedures.

How Does Plasma Skin Tightening Work?

The plasma pen uses a high-frequency electrical current to ionize the air between the pen tip and the skin, creating a small plasma arc. This plasma arc vaporizes the topmost layer of the skin, causing a controlled injury that triggers the skin's natural healing response.

As the skin heals, it produces new collagen and elastin, which help to tighten and firm the skin. The new collagen also helps to improve the texture and tone of the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The effects of plasma skin tightening are gradual and can take several weeks to fully develop, but most patients will see a noticeable improvement in their skin's appearance within a few weeks of treatment.
A typical session will last no more than 30 minutes, although patients are required to attend the appointment an hour prior to the actual procedure to have topical numbing cream applied to the area to be treated. The pin-point scabs will fall off after 5 to 12 days.

How Long is the Healing Process? What Can I Expect?

After a plasma skin tightening treatment, you can expect to experience some mild discomfort and swelling in the treated area, which is a normal part of the healing process. The skin may also appear red or slightly inflamed, and small scabs or crusts may form in the treated area. These scabs are a natural part of the healing process and will typically flake off on their own within a week or two.

Clients will have several small scabs (eschars) all over the treated area. These tend to fall off on about day 5, however, every client will heal at a different rate. It is extremely important to let these come away when they are ready and not to pick or try and remove them as this can result in scarring. It is important to completely avoid the sun and artificial light sources such as sunbeds while the skin is still healing. Once the scabs have shed, it is CRUCIAL that you wear a high level (45+) of SPF for at least six months. Failure to protect the treated area from sun will lead to hyperpigmentation.

Most clients will find that they are ‘healed’ and see results in 2 weeks, however, it can take up to 8 weeks, and I recommend waiting at least 8 weeks before having another plasma treatment on the same area.

How Long Do the Results Last?

The results of plasma skin tightening can last for several years, but the exact duration of the results can vary depending on several factors, such as the patient's age, skin type, and lifestyle habits. Generally, patients can expect to see noticeable improvements in the firmness and texture of their skin for up to two years following the procedure.

However, the longevity of the results can be influenced by several factors such as sun exposure, smoking, and poor diet, which can accelerate the aging process and reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. To maintain the results of plasma skin tightening, it is recommended to practice good skincare habits, such as using sunscreen, avoiding excessive sun exposure, and following a healthy diet and exercise regimen.

Anyone with a darker complexion is at risk for hyperpigmentation. (Take our Fitzpatrick Type quiz to find out if you’re an ideal candidate!)
Clients with diabetes, healing disorders or lymphatic draining issues should not undergo treatment.

  • Clients must not display Herpes Simplex Virus (Cold sores/Fever blisters). You will need to reschedule your appointment if you are experiencing an outbreak. If you have experienced Herpes Simplex Virus (Cold sores/Fever blisters) in the past you must see your Medical Doctor and obtain the necessary prescription and begin taking it 3 days before treatment and for 4 days following treatment. (This applies for treatments surrounding the lip area only)

Plasma Pen Treatment Post-Care

Immediately after the treatment, you will experience slight discomfort and irritation for a few hours. Do not touch the treated area. Keep the area clean and dry. As the anesthetic cream wears off, the area will feel as though it is sunburned. Follow these recommendations to ensure side effects are limited, no infection occurs and you gain optimum results.

It is best not to touch the area treated and to enable the scabs to form. The area will feel as though it has mild sunburn during the healing process and swelling around the area treated usually occurs day 1 – 3.

The treated area will begin to swell 1 – 3 days after treatment, peaking at around days 2 – 4. This is very normal and is part of the healing process. Some clients swell more than others. It is not unusual for the upper lids to swell when the lower lids are treated and vice versa. For this reason, I will not treat both the upper and lower eyelids in a single appointment: only one set at a time.

Avoid submerging the area in water or having any type of water pressure hit the treated area throughout the entire duration of healing.

You can place ice packs near the area to help with swelling. Do not let the scabs directly come into contact with the ice pack as this could result in the scabs coming off prematurely. It is best to wrap the ice packs in a clean and dry paper towel. If the scabs come off prematurely there is a higher risk of scarring.

Ensure you wash your hands before and after touching the area with hot-warm water and antibacterial soap.

Do not rub, scratch or pick the area treated. To wash the area, cleanse with mild soap (Dove). Splash on cool water and pat dry – do not rub. Let the area dry for 5 minutes before proceeding with the aftercare provided to you. Only apply a thin layer over the area, using the wand provided.

Cleanse 2x a day, apply after care 2-3x a day. Remember you want to keep the area dry. Do not over-cleanse or over-apply the aftercare. This will soften the scabs and affect your results.
Avoid UV exposure (sunbeds and natural) and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 50) for 12 weeks after all scabs have come off. Don’t forget to reapply sunscreen every two hours. Allowing the skin to be exposed to the sun can cause hyperpigmentation.

Avoid using any alcohol-based products on the area treated.

Do not apply plasters (liquid bandaid) on the treated areas. Doing so can delay the natural healing process.

Reduce the number of cigarettes you smoke as this can affect the blood supply to the skin.

Do not exercise or bathe (shower OK, see above about water pressure) for the first 72 hours after treatment.

Avoid using make-up for 6 days after treatment, or until all scabs have come off organically.
Do not swim, sauna, or steam until ALL of the scabs have come off organically.

You can continue to use all of your normal facial products 2 months post-treatment.
Avoid removing the scabs as this can lead to infection, hyper-pigmentation, hypo-pigmentation or scarring.

Most Popular Uses for Plasma Pen Skin Tightening

Eyelid/Under-eye skin tightening  (non-invasive): Using thermal energy and voltic arch the skin is forced into repair mode, thus tightening the area of skin treated. Can fix hooded eyelids, as well as diminish bags, circles, and wrinkled skin in the under-eye area. Plasma Pen can also help with volume in the under-eye area in some cases.

Neck Lift or skin tightening treatment (non-invasive): Using thermal energy and voltic arch the skin is forced into repair mode thus tightening the area of sagging skin treated.

Tummy Tightening or tummy lift treatment (non-invasive): Using thermal energy and voltic arch the skin is forced into repair mode thus tightening the area of skin treated.

Anti-aging mid lift or mid facelift (non-invasive): Using thermal energy and voltic arch the skin is forced into repair mode thus tightening the area of skin treated.
Tattoo removal (cosmetic tattoos only – pigment based): Acting on the layer of the dermis where the pigment has been implanted, pigment can be lifted through a technique called spraying. The Plasma Pen essentially creates a small scab by applying intense and directed heat to the area.  The tissue layers that hold the pigment will be superficially damaged thus causing healing to occur. With each treatment the tattoo will lighten up significantly.

Wrinkle Softening:  Fibroblast cells are activated by applying heat (thermal energy to the treatment area),  this causes the body to create excessive amounts of collagen and elastin which results in the treated area becoming tighter and smoother.
Scar Restoration: Plasma Pen can breakdown scar tissue easily and effectively in 1 – 3 treatments by cauterizing the scar tissue and causing the body to produce fresh skin cells that form new skin, removing the scar tissue. Extremely effective in the treatment of hair transplant scars, plastic surgery scars, and basically all scar tissue other than keloids.

Lip Augmentation or Lip Flip (no injection needed): Plasma Pen can target and tighten the lip tissue around the vermillion border of the lip. Through the controlled cauterization micro-trauma, the skin is pinched and will cause the lips to curl out, revealing a more pouty appearance to the lips. (We call this the lipflip!)
